Non-invasive treatment approach for hypomineralised second primary molars using preformed metal crowns: results after 1-year follow-up

PurposeTo evaluate the clinical and radiological outcome of Hypomineralised Second Primary Molars (HSPM) treated with Preformed Metal Crowns (PMC) using Hall Technique (HT).MethodsThis prospective cohort study included healthy children presenting at pediatric dental clinic University Hospitals Leuven (Belgium) least one primary molar affected by HSPM. The situation baseline after a follow-up 1 year was registered in detail standardized criteria. After plaque removal gentle drying, PMCs (3 M™ ESPE™ Stainless Steel Crowns) were fitted without administration local anaesthesia nor tooth preparation. Strict criteria, including gingival health condition, applied. Informed consent obtained for all individual participants. approved institutional Ethics Committee.ResultsA total 39 12 months, placed 15 patients (7 boys 8 girls), included. mean age time fitting PMC 4.6 ± 1.1 years (range: 3–7). None lost failed. Clinical considered fully successful 64.1%, 93.3% cases; other cases rated as acceptable. main reason not being categorized deterioration condition. Overall, treatment well tolerated accepted patients.ConclusionPMCs HT represent an acceptable well-tolerated option management Gingival condition should be incorporated assessment.
